Go Back

Fallen - Evanescence

One of my favorite albums of all time. Amy's vocals are stunning, especially in My Immortal, where I was just awestruck on my first listen. An emotional album that I just found myself relating to the themes of loss and ache.

Favorite songs: My Immortal, Tourniquet

Angel Dust - Faith No More

I fell in love with the deluxe version of this album because of the song As The Worm Turns, which isn't on the normal album. Still, the original is fun. Every song on this album is unique and so enjoyable. I find it to be the only album I like from the band, sadly.

Favorite songs: Midlife Crisis, Malpractice

When the Kite String Pops - Acid Bath

Although the band was short lived, nobody could make an album like them. When the Kite String Pops is the first album that comes to mind when I think of sludge metal. The band, even some of the songs, were controversial, but gained a large popularity in underground metal.

Favorite songs: The Blue, God Machine

Infestissumam - Ghost

Even though the singer himself, Tobias Forge, didn't feel like this album reached its full potential, I really loved it :3 Every song is such a banger and I think it's one of Ghost's more ominous albums, fitting with the themes of the satanic church.

Favorite songs: Per Aspera Ad Inferni, Ghuleh / Zombie Queen, Year Zero, Monstrance Clock

Tonight the Stars Revolt - Powerman 5000

A really fun bop everywhere lol. This genre of metal, combined with the space themes, feels so transendant and it works so well. I can't imagine another band making an album like this. It has the adrenaline that I look for in nu-metal.

Favorite songs: When Worlds Collide, The Son of X-51, Watch the Sky For Me

Rakshak - Bloodywood

Where do I even begin with this album... I fell in love instantly with the combination of Indian folk music with metal. It's unique, done amazingly well, and it even hits home since I'm Indian myself, so I grew up hearing sounds similar to the folk used in this album. The flute and dhol are my favorite parts. The album is so energetic and the band themselves have such a nice personality. I'm excited to see more from them :3

Favorite songs: Endurant, Zanjeero Se, Aaj, Jee Veerey

Prowler in the Yard - Pig Destroyer

I fell in love with Pig Destroyer when I started falling out of slam metal and heavy shit. Pig Destroyer is still heavy of course, but it felt fresh to have this album. I found them from an edit somebody on Tumblr made with a song of theirs. I was still new to grindcore, so I had no idea that songs were traditionally short. Some songs transition nicely, and the concept of the album as a whole, like the themes reoccuring in different songs, is eerie and actually interesting. The introduction is creepy too, and I think it's from a Stephen Hawking quote? That's so cool.

Favorite song: Hyperviolet

Clear Hearts Grey Flowers - Jack Off Jill

An iconic album, well known for Strawberry Gashes. The dark but bittersweet themes of the album tie in together with the agressive instruments is just so perfect. I'm not very good with analysis, so I could be wrong, but I do think that the general theme of the album is about womanhood, especially in teens still gullible.

Favorite songs: Fear of Dying, Strawberry Gashes

Slipknot - Slipknot

Honestly a classic in the nu metal genre :3 I loved the demos of the album, back before most members joined, but the finalized version is also so cool. This era of Slipknot was also so popular with the fashion of nu metal, I think. Like, the color red and the baggy clothes, and hair that usually matched Corey Taylor's mask (and also matched Jonathan Davis's hair).

Favorite songs: Sic, Eyeless, Spit It Out, Diluted

Pretty Hate Machine - Nine Inch Nails

I believe that this is the debut album? It's amazing. When I wasn't a NIN fan, this album didn't seem to matter to me, but now it really is one of my favorites. It's unique and works with synth and metal so well.

Favorite song: Head Like a Hole

White Pony - Deftones

Honestly, I like this album for its angst (Mostly the angst. I love everything else about it too of course!) Listening to this in school made me feel so many emotions, but I found myself just emphasizing with the raw vocals. I don't think I could put it into words. It gets me emotional because I truly feel those emotions. Edit: Maybe it wasn't as "angsty" as I first assumed, but my love for this album doesn't change.

Favorite songs: Digital Bath, Passenger

The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails

The loudest album I've ever heard, and that's in comparison to genres like slam metal! It's strong and emotional, angry and helpless. This album is what made me a NIN fan. Hurt is just such an emotional song, and seeing the way people analyzed it, especially in comparison to Johnny Cash's cover, made me appreiciate the song so much more. It hits deep inside, confronts you with the worst of yourself.

Favorite songs: March of the Pigs, Hurt

The Money Store - Death Grips

I told myself I wasn't going to listen to Death Grips,,, But I guess this album was a familar mix of what I used to listen to that I just got drawn it. Honestly? It was worth it. I actually do like this album.

Favorite songs: Get Got, I've Seen Footage, Hacker

All Eyez on Me - TuPac

While I've never been much of a rap fan, I have made efforts to find a rap genre that I enjoy. TuPac honestly became my favorite rapper, if not the only non-metal rapper I listen to.

Favorite songs: 2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted, Ambitionz Az A Ridah

Ænima - TOOL

A friend of mine in real life really loves TOOL, so I thought I'd give this album a go :3 It's actually so great, WHAT. Yeah I know that TOOL is popular and all but we like joking about the fanbase, so I guess that's why I was hesitant to even listen to an album... please don't hurt me lol. But yeah, this album really is so moving.

Favorite songs: Stinkfest, Pushit, H.

Butchered at Birth - Cannibal Corpse

Hoooooo, I've never been a huge fan of Cannibal Corpse, really. Usually I found their tempo to be off or just not very pleasing, but I did enjoy this album. But the memes weren't kidding about the same album being written over and over... I'm probably being too critical over nothing. I did like this album ^^

Favorite song: Gutted

Iowa - Slipknot

This album is said to be Slipknot's heaviest album, and that's why it's my favorite out of their discography. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Favorite songs: Disasterpiece, My Plague, The Heretic Anthem, The Shape

Covers - Deftones

I know that these are cover songs and not originals, but ohhhhh my god I have this on loop so often it's insane. I'm CRYING because of the song choices.

Favorite songs: Drive, Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, The Chauffeur

Terrifier - Pig Destroyer

OH BOY ANOTHER PIG DESTROYER ALBUM :DDD
I think what really captiviated me about this album (besides the jumpscare at the beginning) was the lyrics. You've got these desperate lyrics and some themes of loving this broken (physically and mentally >_>) girl it's just UUUAGGGHHHH.

Favorite songs: Gravedancer, Towering Flesh, Torture Ballad, Carrion Fairy

Wisconsin Death Trip - Static-X

I really feel like Static-X doesn't get enough credit in the nu metal scene. While I've never seen them perform live myself, I heard that Wayne Static had an amazing stage presence. I believe it, he seemed like an awesome dude. This album was one of my favorites coming from the nu metal genre and I'd really reccomend it to anyone that likes nu metal and industrial metal, assuming they aren't already listening to it.

Favorite songs: Push It, I'm With Stupid

Pornographers of Sound:Live in NYC - Pig Destroyer

This makes me want to see Pig Destroyer live, honestly. The studio albums are great, but the live version is so powerful. The instruments are much clearer and it's much more enjoyable.

Favorite songs: Thumbsucker, Gravedancer, Concrete Beast

Metamorphoses - Bat Nouveau

I feel like this band was pretty underrated in its time. I love the dark feel that comes with the goth genre (if this is considered goth).

Favorite song: The Cry, Wreckage

Selfish Machines - Pierce The Veil

This album is my favorite from PTV. The lyrics are often sinister (without the intention to be, I assume), but sometimes I end up wishing I had a romance like this album...maybe that's not a good thing to wish for, but I still love the songs.

Favorite songs: Bestitos, Disasterology

Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd - Lana Del Rey

My sister had been really trying to get me to listen to this album. Well, she's won now, lol. But really this album is unlike anything Lana Del Rey has done in the past, and it's gorgeous. I understand that the "catholic" themes in the songs might be a lot, but it's so stunning. Her vocals captivated me and the instrumentals are so touching on their own.

Favorite songs: Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, The Grants, Paris Texas, Let The Light In

Feels Like You - Whirr

I found this band after seeing that a person I follow on Tumblr said that this was their new favorite band. I really wanted to check them out. This album was so nice... Do I really have any other words for it...Got me emotional.

Favorite songs: Mellow, Younger Than You
